Dhavani aka Half Saree Designs - Traditional Kerala Style

Dhavani ia back in the limelight and it's either single color in rare shades or multicolor with different bright colors. Brides choose these for their reception or Mehandi look to slay it traditionally. Here are some ideas to mix colors, handwork ideas for dhavani and also design options to help you design your dream outfit.

 The traditional kerala pattern. Being a fashion designer in Kerala, many customers come in with kerala half saree reference pics. It's not just for festivals like onam or vishu or wedding season. The women here look so graceful in the attire that's we love creating this look.

The usual way to stay in the set saree look is by working on a set saree. The normal set saree is made into skirt and dhavani. The blouse alone we take the color according to customer choice.  

Sometimes the cusotmer wants the skirt in good flair, in such cases we take the kerala saree + a set dhavani. This just works perfect as we make either pleated skirt or panel the skirt.

This is a pleated skirt with silver border. The black blouse has been worked with silver floral elements. Techie model Parvathy Somnath is popular to have acted in the Kalyan Silks ad with Prithviraj Sukumaran. This costume was an onam design from us, Crystelle Designer Boutique, Trivandrum. 

We gave the pleated look to bring some yesteryear look in the black and white theme.

Steel saree to steal the show

 Neha dhupia was spotted in this steel saree from RimZhimDadu Design studio. The pallu has ben intricately crafted in steel chords. Take at look at Rimzimdadu instagram page to see the wide range of dresses designed in steel chords for both men and women.

 Shruthi Hassan looked stunning in this metallic blue steel saree. She had draped it around with the elegance. Accordingly yo my view, Shruthi Hassan has carried this statement saree with utmost elegance when compared to Nehaji. Who do you think did justice to this costume?

The drape style looked more like a dress than the floating model either way.

Magic of pani work hand embroidery

Gunmetal cut beads work on a beige salwar suit. simple and cost efficient design has been done to create an overall party wear look without costing much. 

 The cut bead pattern is initially drawn on a copy paper and then hole punched. The design is then imprinted all over the top using marking chalk or transfer powder and kersone mixture. 

Paani work hand embroidery is used to fill in the circles in an even manner. 

 Stones are simply stuck to the ghera.

 One of a popular boutique in Kerala Sella this suit unstitched for about 3900 approx. It comes with a simple chiffon dupatta.

Aiswarya Lakshmi urf Aishu in a simple yet splendid green kurti

I don't know if people would have noticed this dress while watching the movie Brothers Day. But I just loved the design and color. And took a screenshot from Amazon Prime.

You can see that the neckline is different and even the waist cutting. Towards the waist side there are two easy pleats but it ads some extra factor to the dress. Look close and you can see a simple open on the sleeve also. The fabric is probably linen or jute.

Bhavana in Green Kurti by Jazaash

South indian actress Bhavana Menon posted on Instagram in this green Kurti from Jazaash. She added the tagline stating that Green is the primary color of the nature.

The pic only has the upper half of the pic, So this could be a gown or a kurti. The yoke area is seperate with pintucks and  elegant simple zardosi work on the neckline in leaf with crystals to adorn.

The color is the king in a dark green. MoMalayalees call this color 'karimpacha'. Pairing with a flat dangler was a good idea with blue and green shades to bring some life to the face. Bhavana has been spotted several times in exquisite ethnic dresses from Jazaash couture.

Approximate cost for customization can be estimated at about ₹ 2000-2500 for a stitched Georgette kurti of this same work amd pattern. 

Aishwarya Rai Bachchan on her 46th Birthday in NEDO

Aishwarya Rai Bachchan chose a nude pink tail gown by Nedret Taciroglu. The fashion house has created dresses for even The Lady Gaga. So you can simply imagine the detailing and design that they would have created for the beauty queen.

Ash was in Rome attending the celebration of 20 years of association with the watch brand Longines and launching La Dolce Vita. She was styled by Aastha Sharma.

It's a light pink organza gown from the NEDO Spring Summer 2020 Collection. It is embellished with 3D floral elements. The base fabric is organza with lace flowers. The gown has a flamboyant tail to it.

Large chiffon pleated flowers cover the major area in a diagonal axis. The rest of the area is covered with chiffon petals and intricate detailing with beads and probably sequins.

The pleated flower on the right bust seemed a little off for me. But this lady beauty can carry any awkwardness with utmost grace.

Don't ask the cost factor coz its some good deal of handwork that's gone into the creation of this. Probably qe can estimate handwork of about 20-30 days and a replica may cost in the range of 1.5k to about 2 k

The junior , Aradhya Bachchan ,was spotted in a ruffled pink gown to match with mommie. 

Floral handwork on lilac kurti

Thread bullion flowers on the neckline has been done in bunches of three. We have added two shades, one lighter and the other a darker shade than the base fabric which is a lilac Georgette material.

Bullion flowers can are a beauty factor. As we have said in our earlier posts, thread element in any dress can bring a touch of class.

In this work, the flowers are the king factor. All other work has been weaved out from this. The matte silver zardosi leaves are a quick add on and we can cover some good area on a low budget. This is one of those designs we would recommend for hand worked dresses below Rs 5000.

The finishing element or the filing factor is the cut bead and bead rounds in purple shade.

You can either pair with a purple dupatta and bottom. For those of short stature, we would recommend the same or a slightly lighter color.

What we wouldn't suggested is pairing with a stark contrast like bright silver or pink. 

Powder blue and violet floral work hand embroidered saree

The color combination was powder blue and violet and we had the challenge of creating something that would be classy even with the stark contrast of colors.
Keeping this in mind, we avoided using the same shade of the blouse on the saree and chose a subtle shade of violet for the flowers and used pink flowers in thread. The customer was very specific not to add sequin , beads or stones to the attire.
We simply matched the blouse with the saree by giving the same colors flowers on the blouse too.
The darker blue shade piping on the saree gave it the complete Elegance look.

This is one of those few designs which you can an overall work done on the saree at very reasonable rate @Crystelle Designer Boutique. The price range is about 5k. For the unstitched blouse and the saree.

Red line style semi silk kurti unstitched

Posting a quick picture of a hit design which sold out like hot cake. This one was just folded up from the aari aada , and we had a walk in customer who picked it up instaltly. Oh, she was such a beauty. So we quickly took some pics to keep. 

The flowers if you can see closely has been made out of the usual aari flowers style. 

We have put intricate detailing efforts by adding cut dana to the flowers. The self colored cut dana lines are the main element which gives the elegance factor.

Animal design handwork

Today we have uploaded a small video of how you can enhance the sleeve of your blouse or kurti which has animal design.

This specific cusotmer didnt want the blouse to be too heavy as she wanted to wear it later to temple or so. We had this requirement to meet and thus we decided to stick to working on the sleeve end alone.

When you have a certain design on the fabric, mostly you get confused on how to beautify it. The simple trick is to outline the design. If you want to do some simple bead work on your own, just trace along the checks with mediim sized golden beads. That's the simplest way.

We have here outlined the animal design with beads. But just that wont give a finishing look. That's the reason why we have added chain stitch all around and to the minute elements inside. If you can see close, we have added detailing to the elephant saddle also to bring in the royal feel  with french knots.

The finishing element is the pani work. The simple rule is - fill blank space with pani work and take my word, it just works wonders .
